TCL TV Won't Connect to Wi-Fi? The Complete TCL Google TV Sequence

TCL's support article covers every failure mode on TCL Google TVs: can't see any networks, sees the network but won't join, Connected-no-internet, constant drops, and apps that won't load. We follow TCL's structure step by step.

Key takeaways

  1. TCL's built-in connection test (Settings > Network & Internet > Check internet connection) tells you whether the TV reaches the internet at all.
  2. Power-cycle numbers are official: TV unplugged 60 seconds, modem/router unplugged 30 seconds.
  3. If shows Connected, no internet — the TV is attached to the router but not the wider internet; forget and rejoin, then test again.
  4. 2.4 GHz has better range, 5 GHz is faster but shorter range (TCL's own guidance) — try both if your router splits the names.
  5. If only one app fails, it's the app, not the Wi-Fi: force-close it, update, reinstall — and check Settings > System > About > System update.

Step 1 — Quick checks

What it means: the fastest five, straight from TCL.

  1. Make sure another device (phone/tablet/computer) can use your home internet.
  2. Unplug the TV for 60 seconds, then plug it back in.
  3. Restart the modem and router: unplug for 30 seconds, back in.
  4. Make sure Wi-Fi is turned on in the TV settings.
  5. Run Check internet connection from Settings > Network & Internet.

Step 2 — The TV sees no networks

What it means: radio, position, or router settings.

  1. Confirm Wi-Fi is on, restart the TV, then the modem and router.
  2. Move the router closer to the TV if possible.
  3. Check that other devices can see your network — if they can't, the problem is the router.
  4. Test with a phone hotspot: if the TV sees the hotspot, the TV is fine and the router or its settings are the issue.

Step 3 — Sees the network but won't join

What it means: passwords and forget/rejoin.

  1. Select the network, retype the password carefully (same capitalization).
  2. Restart the TV, then the modem and router.
  3. If it still fails: Network & Internet, select your network, choose Forget, then reconnect from scratch and run the connection test.

Step 4 — Connected, no internet

What it means: attached to the router, not the internet.

  1. Confirm other devices reach the internet; if they don't, it's the ISP.
  2. Restart modem and router, restart the TV, forget/rejoin the network, and rerun the connection test.
  3. If only the TV fails while others work, try the hotspot test to confirm which side is broken.

Step 5 — Streaming buffers or one app fails

What it means: signal reliability and app-level fixes.

  1. Move the router closer; keep the TV out of tight cabinets and the router away from large metal objects.
  2. Pause big downloads on other devices; disconnect idle devices.
  3. Try both bands if your router has separate 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz names.
  4. For one broken app: force-close and reopen it, update the app, reinstall it, and check for a system update (Settings > System > About > System update).
