LG TV Won't Connect to Wi-Fi? Fixes in LG's Own Order

LG's help library splits connection failures into: no other device can connect (ISP/router), only the TV fails (settings), or the Wi-Fi list is empty (radio or service). This guide follows LG's order with the exact webOS menu paths by year.

Key takeaways

  1. Diagnosis comes before fixes: one device failing = TV, all devices failing = network, empty Wi-Fi list = LG says contact support.
  2. The hotspot test is decisive — if the TV joins a phone hotspot, your TV's radio is healthy and the fault is the router or ISP.
  3. Menu paths changed three times by webOS year: 2021+ uses General > Network > Internet Connection; 2020 uses Connection > Network Connection Settings; 2019 and earlier uses Connection.
  4. Wi-Fi passwords are case-sensitive (LG's own note) — retype it if the first attempt fails.
  5. LG's modem restart sequence: unplug modem ~10 seconds, replug, then router ~10 seconds, replug.

Step 1 — Diagnose: TV or network?

What it means: Other devices connect fine, or only the TV fails — the split decides everything.

  1. Check whether a phone, tablet, or laptop can use the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. If none can connect: the problem is the router or your ISP — restart the modem and router, or call your ISP.
  3. If only the TV fails: turn on the phone's mobile hotspot and connect the TV to it.
  4. If the TV connects to the hotspot, the TV hardware is fine; work on the router, the Wi-Fi name/password, or the position of the TV.

Step 2 — Set up the wireless connection (exact path by year)

What it means: the Wi-Fi menu moved across webOS versions; using the wrong path wastes time.

  1. On the remote, press the Settings (gear) button and choose All Settings in the top-left.
  2. TVs from 2021 and newer (webOS 6.0+): General, then Network, then Internet Connection, then Wi-Fi Connection.
  3. 2020 models (webOS 5.0): Connection, then Network Connection Settings, then Wi-Fi Connection.
  4. 2019 and earlier (webOS 4.5): Connection, then Wi-Fi Connection.
  5. Select your network, enter the password (case-sensitive), and confirm the TV reports connected.
  6. Wired option: plug an Ethernet cable into the TV — it detects the network automatically.

Step 3 — Check status and restart the chain

What it means: TV connects to router but router doesn't reach the internet.

  1. Open the TV's network status; if TV-to-router shows failed, recheck the Wi-Fi name and password.
  2. If TV-to-router is fine but the internet isn't there, restart the chain in this order: unplug the modem, wait about 10 seconds, plug it back in; then unplug the router, wait about 10 seconds, plug it back in.
  3. Reconnect the TV and recheck.

Step 4 — When to stop and call LG

What it means: these two symptoms are documented as service situations.

  1. If no networks appear at all — not even a phone hotspot — LG's guide says contact support; continuing to restart won't help.
  2. If the Wi-Fi Connection menu is greyed out or missing, LG lists that as a service case too.
